A total of 1,61,807 students got the highest grade point average (GPA 5) in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations-2020 which didn’t take place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As many as 13,65,789 students were supposed to sit for the exams under 11 educations boards.

The results of HSC and equivalent exams of 2020 were announced at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha around 10:45am on Saturday, showing 100% pass rate.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the programme through videoconferencing from her official Ganabhaban residence.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni received a summary of the results on behalf of the premier.

The HSC results were evaluated based on the students’ Junior School Certificate (JSC), and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) results as no exam was held during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The cabinet earlier approved a draft bill for an amendment to the Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance 1961 allowing the education boards to publish results without holding exams amid any crisis.

The education ministry earlier asked students to collect their results online or via mobile SMS, and not to make gathering in educational institutes, due to the risks of Covid-19.
