The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) hosted a seminar named “Ethical Values: Diversity, Honesty, Respect and Fairness” on Wednesday, in the AUST VC seminar hall.
Vice-Chancellor (in charge), AUST Prof Dr Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, all deans of the faculties, head of the departments/offices, directors, deputy directors, officers and assistant administrative officers, upper division assistants (UDA), lower division assistants (LDA) and drivers attended the event.
Prof Dr Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman commenced the seminar with his inaugural address. Following him, Director of IQAC at AUST Prof Dr Sarwar Morshed took charge of conducting the proceedings.
The keynote speaker, Prof Mizanur Rahman (PhD), renowned for his expertise and accolades such as being awarded the title of the Best Law Teacher in South Asia in 2010 and having served as the former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh, as well as a retired professor from the Department of Law at Dhaka University, delivered a valuable speech.
Delving into the realms of diversity, honesty, respect, and fairness, this seminar explores the foundational principles that underpin ethical conduct in various contexts.
Diversity, acknowledging the richness of differences among individuals and cultures, serves as a cornerstone for fostering inclusive environments and equitable opportunities.
Professor Rahman’s discourse centred on the ethical and moral aspects of how freshmen perceive their new academic environment, focusing on feelings of alienation, fear, insecurity, neglect, and being overwhelmed amidst the hustle and bustle, eventually leading to a sense of antagonism.
On the other hand, the seminar delved into various values pertinent to university-level education.
The speaker underscored the significance of aspects such as dress code, physical appearance, grooming, classroom etiquette, effective communication, body language, and the organisation of thoughts.
Finally the seminar ended with the vote of thanks from the director, IQAC, AUST.
