The government has extended the ongoing closure of secondary and higher secondary educational institutions until June 12 to stem the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni confirmed the matter in a virtual meeting on Wednesday.
In the face of an upsurge in Covid-19 cases and deaths in the country, the government on May 15 decided to extend the shutdown of all educational institutions until May 29.
All educational institutes are now shut for over 14 months as the government decided to keep them closed since March 17, 2020.
The shutdown of educational institutions was extended several times later by the ministry.
However, Qawmi madrasas were reopened in August last year under special consideration.
Many students of private universities and schools are taking lessons from home attending online classes. Educational institutions also had to seek out different methods to grade the performance of students.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh on Tuesday recorded 40 more coronavirus-related deaths in 24 hours, raising the fatality figures to 12,441.
Besides, 1,675 people were found infected with Covid-19 pushing the country’s coronavirus caseload to 790,521.
The country reported its first coronavirus cases on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18, 2020.
