The government has extended the closure of educational institutions to September 11 due to the Covid-19 situation in the country.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the education ministry, ministry of primary and mass education and the national technical advisory committee on Thursday.

A press release was issued in this regard signed by MA Khair, public relations officer of the Education Ministry on Thursday.‎

‎At the meeting, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said that universities can be opened in phases from October 17 in accordance with health guidelines.

Before that, information on the number of vaccinated teachers and students at universalities would be sent to the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The decision of reopening universities will be determined according to that information.

The government shut the educational institutions on March 17, 2020, after the country reported its first Covid-19 cases on March 8.

Then the closure was extended several times, most recently until August 31.
