Dr Asraful Alam has become the chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Jagannath University.

A notification was issued in this regard on Wednesday, signed by University Register Engineer Md Ohiduzzaman, read a press release.

Alam obtained his PhD degree in Communication from Chonnam National University, South Korea. He studied journalism, Technology & Democracy at Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication of Arizona State University (ASU), USA under the 2022 scholars' program of the Studies of the United States Institutes (SUSI).

Additionally, he completed an intensive master's program in ‘Media Studies’ from the University of Oslo, Norway under the International Summer School (ISS) Scholarship offered by the Norwegian Government.

Earlier, he completed a four-year bachelor's and a master’s degree with distinction majoring in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

He has been working as a faculty in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Jagannath University, Dhaka since 2009.

Prior to joining the teaching profession, he worked in several media outlets.

He was promoted to assistant professor in September 2013 and associate professor in September 2020.

Dr Ashraful Alam said, "This responsibility has been given to me by the university. I will try to fulfil my responsibility properly. I want to move forward together with the students of my department, I will make arrangements so that they can reach the highest level of success in their workplace. Everyone's cooperation is desirable.”

He organised many seminars and workshops to develop the skills and knowledge of the students. He is very cooperative with students.

He has published many articles in various journals including Stamford Journal of Media, Social Science Review (DU), Korean Journal of Communication Studies, Asian Communication Research, International Journal of Business and Management, Ewha Journal of Social Science, International Journal of Contents, Kookmin Social Science Review etc.
