The classes and examinations of Dhaka University – which remained halted during the Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon movement and the subsequent mass uprising – may resume between September 22 and 25.
The proposed decision was taken in a meeting with deans, chairmen and provosts of different dormitories on Sunday. DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan presided over the programme.
After the next special academic council, the final decision in this regard will be taken in the Syndicate meeting – the highest policy making forum of the university.
Arts faculty Dean Prof Siddiqur Rahman Khan told The Business Post, “A proposal was made to resume classes and exams of the university between September 22 and 25. But the move has not been finalised as yet.
“An emergency Academic council will be held in this regard, and then the decision will be finalised in the Syndicate meeting.”
Dhaka University was closed indefinitely on July 17 by the decision of the institution’s Syndicate to respond to the University Grants Commission’s directive to shut all universities across the country and to order students to leave their dormitories amid violence surrounding the quota reform movements.
