Education Minister Dipu Moni on Sunday said the government wants to keep the educational institutions open amid the ongoing Covid-19 situation.

"The government wants to keep open the educational institutions but students, teachers and guardians have to follow the health guidelines properly," she told journalists after attending the ninth convocation of Daffodil International University at Dattapara in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka.

The minister also said if the Covid infection increases again, the government will decide to close the educational institutions in the country considering the health security for all.

At this year's convocation, degrees were awarded to 12,168 students who passed the bachelor's and master's examinations between Spring 2019 and Summer 2021.

Among them, 12 graduates were awarded gold medals in the convocation.

Trustee Board Chairman of Daffodil International University Md Sabur Khan, Vice-Chancellor Professor M Lutfar Rahman, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor SM Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder spoke at the ceremony.

Chairman of University Grants Commission Professor Kazi Shahidullah and Indian Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi also joined the convocation virtually.
