HSC results to be published after Jan 18: Cabinet secy

The cabinet has decided that the results of 2020's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will be published after January 18.

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam confirmed the matter to the media at a press briefing on Monday afternoon after a Cabinet meeting in the morning.

A proposed amendment to the Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance was approved by the Cabinet in the meeting with the aim of publishing the exam results.

The Ministry of Education placed the draft of the new ordinance in the Cabinet meeting.

This HSC and equivalent examinations of the year 2020 were scheduled to begin from April 1. Around 13 lakh students were expected to sit for the HSC and equivalent examinations.

However, the government closed all educational institutions on March 16 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Later, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said there will be no HSC and equivalent examinations this year. Instead, the students will be evaluated on the basis of their Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam results.
