Bidhan Ranjan Roy, the newly appointed primary and mass education adviser, has underscored the critical need for improving the quality of primary education in the country.

“Primary education is the cornerstone for the nation of any country. The lessons children learn early in life significantly influence the development of their personality,” he said while talking to reporters on his first day in office at the secretariat on Monday.

He expressed concern over the current state of primary education, stating that it is not as effective as it should be.

Roy acknowledged the progress made in the country’s literacy rate and infrastructure over the years, which has led to more children attending school.

However, he emphasised that further improvements in the quality of education are essential. “What we need right now is to enhance the quality of primary education, so that our children can grow up to be good citizens and contribute to society,” he added.

The advisor also addressed the current status of reopening primary educational institutions, noting that although the decision has been made, it has yet to be implemented.

“There is an overall instability at the moment, and with children being so young, if the issues persist without reducing this instability, parents will be hesitant to send their children to schools,” he added.
