International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) is one of the leading private universities in Bangladesh, maintaining a conscientious focus on social development across the country by providing higher education to those who cannot afford it otherwise.

IUBAT was the 1st non-govt university in Bangladesh. The movement for the establishment of private universities in Bangladesh began with the proposal for the establishment of IUBAT in 1989.
Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan submitted the proposal to the Government of Bangladesh on July 27, 1989, as the first Non-Government in Bangladesh and founded IUBAT in 1991.
Producing at least one graduate from each ward
The vision of the university is to produce at least one professional graduate from each village/ward under the concept of Knowledge Based Area Development (KBAD): A Step towards Community Self-Reliance for social mobility and professionalisation of Bangladeshi society through higher education accessible to all qualified men and women.
The overall mission of IUBAT is human resources development through quality education fostering the creation of knowledge conducive to socio-agro-economic advancement of developing societies in general and of Bangladesh in particular.
So far, IUBAT has students and graduates from all 64 districts and 540 out of 550 upazilas in Bangladesh. Over 13,000 students from 544 upazilas have already graduated from the university.

Outstanding positions in rankings
International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has achieved an outstanding position of #1401+ in the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2024 and 511-600 QS Asia Ranking 2024.
In the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022, IUBAT was ranked in the 601-800 position, which evaluates universities' contributions to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In the World's Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Rankings 2022, IUBAT ranked 39th, reflecting its focus on practical and sustainable solutions to real-world problems.
In the SCImago Institutions Rankings 2022, IUBAT ranked 735th among 8,084 institutions worldwide in innovation, highlighting its research and development efforts.
Additionally, IUBAT ranked third among the 13 ranked Bangladeshi private universities and 339th in the Asiatic region.
In the UIGreen Metric Index, IUBAT ranked 275th among 1183 universities from 85 countries worldwide,
In AppliedHE Private University Ranking 2023 (Product of QS-Asia), IUBAT has secured the 6th position in the ASEAN and Asia Pacific Region
Recognition and accreditation
One of the most prestigious organisations that IUBAT is a member of is the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
The university is also a member of another international organization, the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP).
IUBAT has also been recognised by Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), USA, and Comparative Education Services (CES), Canada.
Finally, the College of Business Administration at IUBAT is currently in the process of being accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), USA.
The ACBSP is a specialised accreditation organisation that focuses on business education.
International affiliations
IUBAT has memoranda of understanding with 112 higher education and professional institutions in Europe, North America, Australia, Asia, and Africa for student and faculty exchange, joint research, credit transfer, higher studies, and internships.
The affiliations reflect changes taking place around the world in university curricula and educational offerings. The university has graduates and students from Nepal, USA, Somalia, Nigeria, Maldives, and other countries.
The university receives exchange faculty and students, mostly from Canada and the USA, every year.
Strength of academic body and extensive focus on research
The present teacher-student ratio in IUBAT is around 1:18. The university places significant importance on the development of its teachers.
Besides in-house teachers’ development programs, presently, over 60 teachers are on study leave pursuing higher studies including PhDs at renowned foreign universities.
The Miyan Research Institute of the university is providing training and funding to faculty and students for research and publication activities.
Over the last three years, the institute has granted funds for 29 small research projects to IUBAT teachers for research and publications.
The domains of the ongoing research under the grants include agriculture, water, transportation and traffic systems, renewable energy, manufacturing, electronics, family and culture, police administration, waste management and sustainability, and robotics.
Most recently, the university has constituted the IUBAT Institute of SDG Studies (IISS), dedicated to research and training on Sustainable Development Goals.
The university has several specialised centres for research and training. IUBAT receives regular research interns from Simon Fraser University, Canada, and has published a dozen joint research monographs on contemporary issues.
IUBAT regularly publishes a multidisciplinary research journal. The university has a Publication and Reward System for awarding grants to teachers for research and publication.
Scholarships for local students
IUBAT provides Tk 20 million in scholarships, tuition waivers, and grants annually for students from Bangladesh and abroad.
IUBAT provides full free studentship under the IUBAT Founder Dr Miyan Scholarship. It also provides up to 100 per cent scholarship based on the SSC and HSC or equivalent exam results and provides a 15 per cent gender parity scholarship for female students as well.
Scholarships for international students
IUBAT Scholarships for International Students are intended for students from outside of Bangladesh who want to do their bachelor’s or master’s degree at IUBAT.
The Scholarships for International Students cover full tuition fees, admission fees, registration, and health insurance.
Any other expenses like food and accommodation, visa fees, and travel fares are not covered under this scholarship.
The International Program Office constitutes the focal point for all international activities of the university.
Educational financing
The theme of the university is “Higher Education for Every Qualified Person with Finance for Meritorious but Needy.”
To materialise this theme, IUBAT has a special provision for supplementing the family resources of a student through scholarships, grants, fee waivers, deferred payments, campus jobs, and student loans.
It is IUBAT's policy to cater to the needs of all qualified students who aspire to higher professional education regardless of the income level of his or her family through appropriate educational financing arrangements.
Extracurricular events
Each semester IUBAT remains vibrant with many educational, research, conferences, exhibitions, sports, games, and cultural events made lively with widespread participation of faculty, students, officers, staff, and neighbouring communities as well as visitors from around the world.
Reception and farewell to visiting professors are also frequent. Besides, cultural events are organized on various special occasions including the observance of various national and international days of significance in addition to in-house events like convocation, orientation, foundation, and parents’ night, throughout the year.
These events serve as a medium of developing solidarity among the IUBAT family in addition to building bridges of cooperation with the outer world.
