The Department of Microbiology of Jahangirnagar University (JU) inaugurated a Cell Culture and Synthetic Biology Lab at the Wazed Mia Science Research Centre of the university on Wednesday.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nurul Alam, officially inaugurated the lab at 10:30am, and guests had the opportunity to explore various sections of the lab during the inauguration event.
Following the lab inauguration, a round table meeting titled ‘Dialogue on sustainable development in Bangladesh: Crafting Industry-Academia Collaboration in Bioscience through Research and Innovation’ took place in the council room of the new registrar building of the university. Moderated by Professor Anwar Khusru Parvez of the Microbiology Department, participants in the meeting discussed building collaboration between the industry and academia to advance bioscience innovation for sustainable development in Bangladesh.
In the closing speech, Vice-Chancellor Nurul Alam stated, ‘I believe today's round table discussion on the collaboration between industry and academia in advancing biosciences in Bangladesh is a truly groundbreaking step. I welcome such joint ventures. The Cell Culture and Synthetic Biology Lab inaugurated today, I hope, will bring many benefits to biology research.’ Additionally, he expressed the hope for a future partnership between a pharmaceutical company and the university in the research of university students.
