All medical colleges in the country are likely to be reopened from September 13, said health minister Zahid Maleque.
He announced the probable date of reopening the institutions at a media briefing of the health ministry in the Secretariat on Thursday.
"Physical classes will start for the first, second, and fifth-year students at the public-private medical colleges. Later, considering the situation, classes for other years will be resumed,” the minister said.
The health minister also said all types of medical-related educational institutions will be opened.
Responding to a question from reporters, Zahid Maleque said, "We will start the practical classes first in a step-by-step manner. Then, we will open all the other classes gradually considering the situation," he added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday informed the parliament that all educational institutions in the country have been directed to open soon.
She urged the teachers and students to attend classes following the hygiene rules.
The government shut the educational institutions on March 17, 2020, after the country reported its first Covid-19 cases on March 8.
Then the closure was extended several times, most recently until September 11.
