Education Minister Dipu Moni on Saturday said that the introduction of a new curriculum will reduce the number of examinations and also dispel students’ fear of exams.

The minister made the statement while speaking at a programme organised to inaugurate "Lila Nag Bhaban" of Sher-e-Bangla Girls' College at Tikatuli in Dhaka.

“The number of exams will go down with the introduction of the new curriculum. It will remove the fear of exams among the students,” Dipu Moni said.

“We will be able to come out of examinations-dependent evaluation system as evaluation will be done daily.”

“A limited-scale exam will be taken at the year’s end, but the final evaluation will be done coordinating students’ performance round the year,” she added.

The minister also mentioned that full-fledged physical classes in secondary and higher secondary level educational institutions will resume from March 15.

Bangladesh, in the first phase, kept all educational institutions shut for more than one and a half years from March 18, 2020, to September 11, 2021, due to the Covid-19 situation.

Bangladesh recorded the first Covid-19 case on March 8, 2020.

Soon after resuming the classes the authority shut classes again as the number of infections was increasing alarmingly in January.

The government closed the schools, colleges and equivalent educational institutions, again, across the country from January 21 to February 6 to combat the virus surge.

Although the government shut educational institutions but kept all the businesses open that was criticised by the educationists.

They repeatedly asked the government to consider the reopening of the schools and universities.

But the government extended the closure. As the situation improved at the beginning of this year, classroom teaching began from February 22 in a limited manner at the secondary and higher secondary level.

Classroom teaching at the primary level began on March 2 on a limited scale.
