The Television and New Media course under North South University (NSU)’s Department of Political Science & Sociology has organised a field trip to Kotbari in Cumilla on Friday.

The trip was originally planned with only Kotbari in mind.

However, impromptu visits to the archaeological ruins of Panam Nagar as well as to Cumilla University were also included by the decision of the honourable faculty Dr Shariful Islam, resulting in a more holistic viewing of the expansive history of Cumilla, read a press release.

The field trip, organised by members of the student body as well as the honourable faculty member of the course, intended to give the students a glimpse into the rich historical tapestry of Bangladesh.

The historical context paved the way for the group project of the course, which will involve creating a documentary with footage, images, audio clips, etc. surrounding the infamous archaeological sites situated in the district of Cumilla.

The students spent all day learning about the history and legacy of Kotbari, indulging in an invaluable educational experience in the modern day.

They also gained an opportunity to bond together with each other as well as apply the lessons they have previously learned regarding media and journalism under the guidance of Dr Shariful Islam.

The field trip effectively shone a light on the invaluable resource of documentary films. As documentaries revolve around showcasing reality in a creative and informative manner, the students were able to participate in the activity by creating their own documentaries.

This provided a hands-on experience in a practical approach to the art of documentary filmmaking, which the students can hope to channel again in the future.

Overall, the course, coupled with the field trip and project, provided the students with invaluable insight into the inner workings of the media that is present in every facet of our lives.
