The government is likely to hold this year’s Primary Education Completion examinations for fifth graders in late November or early December considering the Covid-19 situation.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain announced the tentative schedule while talking to the journalists at secretariat on Monday.
The fresh announcement comes after the government on Sunday finalised the decision to reopen all the primary, secondary and higher secondary-level educational institutions on September 12 following an inter-ministerial meeting.
After the reopening, the SSC and HSC examinees of 2020-2021, and the students of class 5 will attend classes regularly while the students of class 1-4 and 6-9 will attend classes once a week initially.
“The PEC exams will be held on a short syllabus. The number of subjects for the exams will be decided based on the situation,” the state minister said.
Besides, annual examinations of the primary-level will also be held this year, he added.
Last year, the PEC examinations were scrapped due to the pandemic situation.
The government shut the educational institutions on March 17, 2020 after the country reported its first Covid-19 cases on March 8 and later the closure was extended several times.
On August 26 this year, the government extended the closure of educational institutions until September 11.
