Prime Minister Sheikh Haima will take the decision of reopening the Qawmi madrasas which are closed since March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said this to the press after a meeting with a delegation from Qawmi Madrasa Board.

The delegation has handed over an application to the cabinet secretary appealing to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina seeking her order for resuming their regular educational activities and exams in "Kitab Bibhag", which covers everything from post-primary to masters-degree equivalents.

After the meeting with the cabinet secretary, Maulana Yahya Mahmud, vice-president of the Madrasa Board, told reporters, "We applied for resuming the Qawmi madrasa operations on July 2 as those have been closed for Covid-19. Based on that application, the home minster decided to resume Hifz Bibhag, Holy Quran memorisation section, from July 12."

He also said, “To resume the Kitab Bibhag, we have made another application to the prime minister through the cabinet secretary.”

Mushtaq Ahmed, vice-president and Mufti Mohammad Ali, secretary general of the National Religious Madrasa Education Board were present at the meeting.
