Prof Sayema Haque Bidisha has been appointed as the pro vice-chancellor (admin) of Dhaka University.
The Ministry of Education issued an official notification in this regard on Monday evening.
It read, “According to Article 13 (1) of the Dhaka University Order, 1973, with the approval of the president and chancellor, Prof Sayema Haque Bidisha, Economics Department of the Dhaka University, has been appointed as the pro vice-chancellor (admin) of the University.
“She will serve the university for four years. The president, and chancellor of the university, can cancel the appointment at any time.”
Prof Sayema Haque has been serving as a professor of Dhaka University’s economics department.
She did her bachelor’s, as well as master’s from the DU economics department, MSc from the University of Bath of UK, and PhD in Labour Economics from the University of Nottingham, UK under Commonwealth Scholarship scheme.
Her research interest lies in labour economics, development economics, and micro-econometrics. Her work involves both empirical analysis as well as policy focused research with emphasis on developing countries.
In the context of Bangladesh, she worked on various research projects on labour market, demographic dividend and youth population, skill and education, gender and women empowerment, gender budgeting, migration and remittance earning, credit and food security, poverty and vulnerability, SDG financing, financial inclusion etc.
In addition, Dr Bidisha also contributed in preparing various policy documents and government flagship objects. She has worked with various international and UN agencies.
She has published a good number of scholarly publications including journal articles, book chapters and scientific reports.
