A school-feeding project will be launched in all government primary schools across the country in June this year, said State Minister of Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain.
He said this at a press brief in the secretariat on Tuesday, adding, “The project had earlier played an effective role in dealing with nutritional deficiencies, ensuring 100 per cent enrollment, boosting attendance, preventing dropouts, and timely completion of education.
“Therefore, the government has taken the step to implement a school-feeding programme in all government primary schools of the country.”
In 2010, the government had launched an operational project in 104 upazilas of the country titled “School Feeding in Poverty-Stricken Areas,” which ended in June 2022.
Zakir added that the result of primary scholarship examination will be announced between March 25 to March 28, and the transfer of assistant teachers in upazila and inter-district level will begin online from next week.
He mentioned that teachers will also be trained on specific subjects and curriculum expansion by March 2023.
Changing schools’ name
The government is planning to change the existing names of 200 government primary schools that have been deemed inappropriate, said Zakir Hossain, adding, “A policy regarding this was issued on 23 January 2022. We have decided to publish a gazette within six months.”
He said then, "We will change the existing names with decent and inspiring ones that honour our history, culture, prominent figures, and freedom fighters.”
Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education (MoPME) Farid Ahmed, Director General of Directorate of Primary and Mass Education Shah Rezwan Hayat, Additional Secretary of Ministry Abubakar Siddique and Md Mosharraf Hossain were present at the event.
