Shah Mokhdum Medical College students attacked ‘by staffers’, 12 hospitalised

At least 12 students of Shah Mokhdum Medical College (SMMC) in Rajshahi sustained injuries in an attack allegedly carried out by the college staffers for ‘demonstrating against the institute’ on Friday afternoon.

The injured students have been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for treatment.

One of the injured students, Rayhan, told The Business Post that some staffs of the college along with some outsiders swooped on them with sticks when they were gathered on the campus around 5pm on information that a team of the health ministry will visit the campus.

A complaint has been received over the incident, said Rajshahi’s Chandrima Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sirajum Monir.

It has been learnt that the health ministry earlier directed the authorities of Shah Mokhdum Medical College not to enroll students in 2020-2021 session as the college violated the Private Medical College Establishment and Management Policy.
