Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology observed "Shaheed Dibash" (Martyrs' Day) and International Mother Language Day paying homage to the Language Movement martyrs on Monday.
The university observed the day on the campus No 1 in Dhaka’s Uttara amid various programmes, including discussions, cultural performances and placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, a press release said.
Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology vice-chancellor (in-charge) and Treasurer Prof Shamsun Nahar inaugurated the programmes with a welcome speech.
Board of Trustees Chairman Prof Mostafizul Haque highlighted the significance of the day in his speech.
Shanto-Mariam Foundation Chairman and the university’s Board of Trustees member Dr Md Ahsanul Kabir, Language Movement hero Abdul Matin’s wife Gulbadan Matin, Shanto-Mariam Foundation Deputy Director Abu Nayeem Ahmed Ali, the university Registrar Dr Par Mosiur Rahman and advisor Hosne Ara Rahman, among others, were present on the occasion.
