Students of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University blocked the Nilkhet intersection in the capital on Saturday protesting the abrupt suspension of examination.

Demanding the continuation of their ongoing exams, a number of degree students who came to sit for the second year examination, took to the streets around 9:30am.

The blockade created traffic congestion in the area, causing sufferings to commuters.

The examinees said they came to know about the exam postponement upon arrival at the centre in the morning and were not served any prior notice in this regard.

The exam was suspended due to the country’s worsening Covid-19 situation.

They said the examinations that were supposed to be held in 2018 began on November 21 last year and were scheduled to end on January 22 this year.

Kawser Hossain, a student of Kabi Nazrul Government College, lamented, "We are already stuck in a terrible session jam. The last exam was supposed to be held today (Saturday), but we came to know about its postponement after coming to the centre.”

Earlier on Friday, the government announced the closure of all educational institutions for the next two weeks, till February 6, as the country is witnessing a sharp spike in Covid-19 infections every day.

On the same day, National University suspended all its examinations in line with the government decision.
