University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh paid tribute to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement by placing a wreath at the Shaheed Minar on the university’s permanent campus in the capital Monday, marking ‘Shaheed Dibash’ (Martyrs’ Day) and International Mother Language Day.
At this time, one minute silence was observed to show respect to the Language Movement heroes for their sacrifice, a press release said.
On the occasion, former chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) and Professor of ULAB Abdul Mannan highlighted the context of 1952 Language Movement and called upon the young generation to always strive to maintain the dignity of Bangla language.
ULAB Vice-Chancellor Professor Imran Rahman emphasised on the correct application of language in the official and other fields of the students and at the same time advised them to take care of their respective regional languages.
ULAB treasurer, registrar, deans, heads of departments, faculty members, administrative officers and students, among others, were present on the occasion.
