Renaissance Drama Society staged its 19th production ‘Achalayatan’ (The Petrified Place) at Chandler Community Centre Theatre in Melbourne, Australia on July 29 and 30.

Written by Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore, the drama has been directed by Bangladeshi dramatist Zahid Repon. Indian dramatist Moulinath Ganguly was the co-director of the play.

Saki Tara (from Bangladesh) has designed the costumes of ‘Achalayatan’ and Fazle Rabbi Sukarna has done the stage design. Australian expatriate Puravi Chowdhury (from) choreographed the play while music is done by Zakir Morshed Jamil.

The play revolves around a school named Achalayatan. It portrays the perpetual conflict between old values and radical ideas. Panchak and Mahapanchak, two siblings, hold radically divergent opinions. Mahapanchak holds to old values, whereas Panchak is the rebel.
