Defeated general secretary candidate Nipun Akter files a writ petition seeking to annul the results of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association (BFFA) (2024-26) term election and demands a new election.

On Wednesday (May 15), on behalf of Nipun, his lawyer Palash Chandra Roy filed a writ petition in the High Court bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Jinat Haque.

The writ seeks to prohibit the committee led by Misha Sawdagar and Monowar Hossain Dipjol from performing their duties and calls for an investigation. Upon hearing the news of Nipun's writ petition, Zahed Khan expressed his displeasure.

Zayed said, "She had accepted the election results by saying that the election was fair. But not even a month has passed, and now she feels that the election was not fair. It means she is doing whatever she feels like. Nipun is doing this out of greed for the chair. She has shown how low a person can stoop to hold on to a chair undeservedly, being greedy and shameless."

Nipun Akter had lost to Dipjol by 16 votes in the election for the post of secretary of the Film Artists' Association.

Regarding Nipun's writ petition in the High Court, Zayed further said, "She has done this to stay in the limelight. She needs to be in the news. Besides, she has misguided some people. All the artists will come together to resist such a dirty-minded artist. I cannot say anything about the law or the writ petition, but she is saying something different now after garlanding the new committee. This is duplicity. An artist cannot be so despicable."

Nipun has claimed that she has evidence of irregularities in the recent Bangladesh Film Artists' Association (BFAA) election. In a phone interview with a Bangladeshi news outlet, Nipun alleged that the election commission did not accurately show the number of invalid votes.

Nipun is currently in the United States and is challenging the election results in the High Court.
