Facing intense criticism from students and the general public, Sheikh Hasina resigned from power and fled the country on August 5. Subsequently, numerous cases were filed against those involved in various acts of injustice, corruption, and the assaults and deaths of students that occurred during the Awami League regime, particularly in July and August.

Many top leaders of the party have been named as defendants in these cases. Additionally, cases have been filed against several celebrities from the showbiz industry associated with the party.

One such individual is the controversial Dhallywood actor Zayed Khan. He has been accused in a case of attempting to murder BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia by attacking her motorcade.

The filing of a case against Zayed Khan sparked significant discussion and controversy at the time. Now, Dr Asif Nazrul, one of the advisors to the interim government, has spoken on the matter.

During a recent interview on a New York-based media outlet’s program ‘Thikanay Khaled Mohiuddin’, Dr Asif Nazrul was asked whether peculiar “ghost cases,” similar to those from previous regimes, were being filed this time as well.

In response, the interim government advisor said, “I can’t name everyone, but two names come to mind right now, Shakib Al Hasan and Zayed Khan.”

Dr Nazrul further explained, “It’s important to understand that filing a case is a citizen’s right. All of these cases have been filed on a personal basis. If the police were involved, then it would have been state-level. Have attempts been made to arrest them? No, they haven’t been arrested.”

He added, “An FIR doesn’t necessarily mean an arrest. Police will not make an arrest without credible evidence, that’s for sure. There is immense pressure on those who come forward to file these cases, which is difficult to explain.”

It should be noted that on August 25, a case was filed by band musician Asif Imam in the court at Dhaka. In addition to Zayed Khan, actor Shahriar Nazim Joy, Saju Khadem, and 50 others have been named as defendants in the case.
