Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhon is not only known for her acting prowess but also for her outspoken stance against injustice. She has been a vocal supporter of student protests against inequality.
Badhon joined the students on the streets in a show of solidarity. However, this courage came at a cost, as she faced threats and online harassment.
She revealed, “From the day I joined the students' justified movement, I've been receiving death threats over the phone, in text messages, and on Facebook. They even threatened to throw acid on me. But I wasn't afraid. The fire I saw in the eyes of the students during our protests gave me the courage to face it all.”
While many celebrities stood by the students, some tried to portray the movement differently. Badhon commented on this, saying, “Some of my colleagues not only didn't join the students on the streets but also threatened and mocked me. I was deeply hurt by their actions. But I don't hold any grudge against them. Revenge only hinders the progress of individuals and nations.”
Following the resignation and departure of Sheikh Hasina, the country witnessed widespread chaos. Badhon expressed her concerns, saying, “Our country has gained independence again. One group is involved in terrorist activities, arson, and another is looting. I don't support such injustices. We must follow the path shown by the students to build our country. Stop these destructive activities.”
