Bangladeshi film "Moyna" (I want to be a Mother) directed by Monjurul Islam Megh, won the "Special Mention Feature Film" award at the 10th Gulf of Naples Independent Film Festival in Italy.
"Moyna" was the only Asian film to be selected for the full-length film competition, which featured films from around the world, including the United States, Canada, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Morocco and Bangladesh.
Expressing his feelings about winning the award, ‘Moyna’ director Megh said, "It is a great pleasure that Bangladeshi cinema is competing with films from different countries of the world. Winning an award increases the responsibility. I hope my next film will be better. This is the first time Bangladesh has had the opportunity to participate in this festival through my film."
"I think ‘Moyna’ will be appreciated in Bangladesh as it has been appreciated in international film festivals. This film has been made for all classes of viewers, including children and family members. All the songs of ‘Moyna’ will touch your heart”, he added.
"Moyna" had earlier garnered the best film production award at the 25th EMMA’S BBC Festival of Multicultural 2023 in London and is scheduled to feature in the 21st Aporia International Village Film Festival in Korea this August.
The film tells the story of a young woman who desperately wants to become a mother. She undergoes numerous fertility treatments but is unable to conceive. Eventually, she decides to adopt a child.
About the film’s release in Bangladesh, producer Alim Ullah Khokon also said, "'Moyna' has received its censor certificate and will be released in September. Before that, Moyna will participate in some more international film festivals."
The screenplay and dialogues of the film were penned by Megh. “Moyna” features a talented cast including Raj Ripa, Kayes Arju, Aman Reza, Affan Mitul, Jilani, Momena Chowdhury, Nader Chowdhury, Subrata Barua, Suchona, Khalilur Rahman Qadri, Shishir and child artist Zannatul Voor.
