In memory of Himalaya Himu, the theatre troupe Batighar will bring the 14th show of ‘Himur Kolpito Diary’ on the stage on Saturday at 7 pm at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the city.

The play has been directed by Muktonil. Batighar staged the first show of this theatre drama in 2020.

Nowshad Hasan Himu is a Bangladeshi activist, who rescued dozens of people during the infamous 2013 Rana Plaza disaster that killed over 1,100 people. Himu volunteered at the spot for 15 days straight and later for 17 days he was at the hospital.

From then on, those horrible memories kept haunting him. He couldn’t bear to see blood or raw flesh. Rana Plaza’s horrifying memories kept haunting him every day. Sometimes he even started to behave weirdly because of the traumas he was suffering from. His own life and the socio-economic condition of the country also made him frustrated. He couldn’t bear the traumas anymore and committed suicide by setting himself on fire on April 24, 2019.

According to the theatre troupe, maybe he was not able to bear the fact that the victims did not get justice. Thus, he chose to commit suicide by putting fire on himself and met a tragic end.

With this one-hour fifteen-minute theatre drama, the troupe wanted to question the society, have we been able to improve our socio-economic life? Have we got any positive changes from a miserable, miserable, rotten social system?

The ticket for the show will cost 200tk, 300 and 500tk, depending on the sitting arrangements.
