Renowned Bhawaiya singer and freedom fighter Nadira Begum has passed away at the age of 73. She breathed her last on Monday night at Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

Nadira was born and raised in Joypurhat. Her body was brought to Joypurhat on Tuesday morning. The funeral took place at the family graveyard with national honors at Ramdeo Bazla School ground in Joypurhat on Tuesday afternoon.

People from all walks of life, including cultural activists, political leaders, and government officials, paid their respects at the funeral.

Nadira was a prominent figure in the Bhawaiya community and served as an advisor to the Bangladesh Bhawaiya Council. She also held the position of Chairman at the Bhawaiya Academy.

She was the daughter of "Kolo kolo Cholo cholo Nodi Kore Tolomolo," the song's lyricist and composer, A.K.M. Abdul Aziz. Nadira began her career in music under her father's guidance. In 1960, she was recognized as a musician on the radio.

Among her nine siblings, Nadira was the eldest. She leaves behind a son and a daughter.
