Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor has recently opened up about the tragic passing of his late wife, the iconic actor Sridevi. On February 24, 2018, Sridevi, who was 54 at the time, tragically lost her life due to accidental drowning in her Dubai hotel room.

Kapoor revealed to The New Indian that Sridevi adhered to a strict dietary regimen. He also shared details about the investigation he underwent, including a lie detector test, in the wake of her passing.

He stated, “It wasn't a natural demise, it was a tragic accident. Initially, I thought I'd never discuss it, as I was extensively questioned and scrutinized for nearly 24-48 hours during the investigation. Eventually, I was cleared by the Dubai police. They explained that the scrutiny was due to significant pressure from the Indian media. Upon thorough investigation, it was confirmed that there was no foul play involved. The report conclusively stated it was an accidental drowning.”

Kapoor disclosed that Sridevi experienced occasional "blackouts" due to her no-salt diet. Despite medical advice against an overly restricted salt intake due to her low blood pressure, she continued this practice leading up to her untimely passing.

“Our family doctor repeatedly advised Sri (Sridevi) against extreme diets. Given her low blood pressure, he cautioned her against avoiding salt entirely. Many women believe that salt causes water retention and puffiness. This led Sri to steer clear of it. We encouraged her to even sprinkle a bit of salt on her salads,” Kapoor explained.

He further recalled an incident shared by actor Nagarjuna, where Sridevi, during one of her shoots, fell in the bathroom and chipped her teeth due to another crash diet.

“Since our marriage, I knew she had a tendency to embark on stringent diets. I would urge my daughters to remind her to include some salt. I would even remind her myself. When we dined out, she'd always request 'no salt' in her food,” Kapoor reminisced.

Boney Kapoor and Sridevi tied the knot in 1996 and welcomed their first daughter, Janhvi, in 1997, followed by Khushi in November 2000.
