Actress Rukaiya Jahan Chamak has been banned from acting for a period of three months starting from September 1. This decision was taken by Director's Guild, citing allegations of misconduct and false behavior towards producers and fellow artists during the shooting of the play 'Shoshur Barite Prothom Din' on August 4.
The Director's Guild, in collaboration with Television Producers' Association and Actors' Guild, made the decision public during a press conference on Monday. The ban comes in the wake of the financial losses suffered by the producers of the play due to Chamak's behavior, which has reportedly caused disruptions in the shooting schedule. The producers have been instructed to compensate for the damages by August 30.
Trouble began on August 4 when Chamak arrived late on the set of a play directed by Adif Hasan, causing a delay and resulting in a tense situation. Sources indicate that she had behaved inappropriately towards several individuals during the shooting. Notably, she even refrained from engaging in conversation with senior artist Masum Basher and co-actor Arosh Khan. The situation escalated to the point where the police were called to the set.
Subsequently, Adif Hasan lodged a formal complaint with the Director's Guild, accusing Chamak of her behavior. On the other hand, Chamak herself filed a complaint against Adif Hasan with the Actor's Guild. Amidst these allegations and counter-allegations, the Television Program Producers' Association of Bangladesh, the Director's Guild, and the Actor's Guild convened multiple meetings to address the issue.
During these discussions, Chamak's allegations against Adif Hasan were heard, alongside the testimony of witness Arosh Khan, who presented his account of the incident. On August 14, the Actor's Guild issued a written statement, finding Chamak guilty and imposing a three-month ban on her acting career. The ban, effective from September 1, has raised debates within the entertainment industry regarding appropriate conduct and professionalism.
