In a dazzling showcase at the Gotham Awards on Monday night, "Past Lives" emerged as the triumphant victor, securing the prestigious title of Best Feature.

The event also saw Charles Melton acclaimed for his supporting role in Todd Haynes' "May December" and Lily Gladstone celebrated for her leading performance in "The Unknown Country."

Expressing gratitude upon receiving the coveted Best Feature award, writer-director Celine Song took the stage and conveyed her honour. She commenced by acknowledging the city that served as the backdrop for her debut, New York City, expressing her deep connection to the metropolis where she resides. Song extended her appreciation to A24, the producers, as well as the cast and crew of "Past Lives." Joining her on stage were two stars from the film, Greta Lee and John Magaro.

Prior to the ceremony, director Andrew Haigh's metaphysical gay romance, "All of Us Strangers," led the pack with four nominations spanning various categories. Celine Song's "Past Lives" and A.V. Rockwell's "A Thousand and One" closely followed with three nominations each.

The Best Feature category included nominees "Showing Up," "Passages," and "Reality." In the realm of Best International Feature, contenders such as "Anatomy of a Fall," "Poor Things," "Tótem," and "The Zone of Interest" vied for the prestigious accolade alongside "All of Us Strangers."

Traditionally reserved for independent films, the Gotham Film and Media Institute deviated from its historical $35 million budget cap requirement for nominees this year, ushering in a mix of indie and art-house films. Notable exceptions, like "Barbie," infiltrated the competition.
