The festival-loving people of the country celebrated Pahela Falgun, the first day of spring in the Bengali month of Falgun, with colourful attire, flower and songs.

Falgun is the eleventh month in the Bengali calendar and the first month of the season, Spring. Warm sunshine, blooming flowers and chirping birds make Spring the king of all the six seasons in Bangladesh.

Bakultala of Charukola, the premises of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, has become the center of celebration in the capital as thousands of people gathered there this morning on the occasion of Pahela Falgun.

The tradition of celebrating the Pahela Falgun in Bangladesh started in the Bengali calendar year 1401. Since then, the Jatiya Bawshonto Utsab Udyapan Parishad has been celebrating Pahela Falgun regularly with jovial cultural festivity at the Bakultala of Charukola (Dhaka University Faculty of Fine Art) in the morning.

Artistes from more than ten cultural organisations of the country participated in this event. Like every year, the festival starts with instrumental music at 7 am. Artiste Jyoti Banerjee played raga 'Basanta Mukhari' on sitar.

After that, the premises turn into a festivity with the performances of songs, dances, recitations and spring speeches. At the event, artistes of Bhabna, Dhriti, Nrityam, Banhishikha, Nrityakkha, Spandan, Kathuk Nritya Sampraday performed group dances, while Anima Mukti Gomez, Biman Chandra Biswas, Bulbul Islam rendered solo songs. Bhaswar Bandyopadhyay welcomed the spring, while Nayla Tarannum Chowdhury Kakoli recited poems. Satyen Sen Shilpi Gosthi and Surer Dhara performed chorus rendition. The event was also featured Sawtal and Chakma dances.

It will also host similar festivities in the afternoon on the open stage at Uttara Rabindra Sarani and Bahadur Shah Park in the capital.

Different organisations including the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) and many other organisations, institutions and businesses celebrated this year’s festive on February 14 with multiple programmes.
