Universal Pictures has revealed plans for a new instalment in the iconic Jurassic Park franchise, set to hit theatres in 2025.

Renowned screenwriter David Koepp, known for his work on the original Jurassic Park and its sequel, is back at the helm, promising fans a fresh and exciting storyline.

The project, shrouded in secrecy until now, has progressed significantly, with insiders suggesting a well-received script and a potential 2025 release date. Although no director has been confirmed, industry veteran Frank Marshall, who oversaw the Jurassic World trilogy, is set to produce alongside Patrick Crowley. Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg will produce through his Amblin Entertainment banner, according to the Hollywood reporter.

Unlike previous Jurassic World films, this instalment is slated to mark the beginning of a "new Jurassic era." Sources indicate a departure from the familiar characters played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, as well as the absence of original Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum.

Interestingly, the project is being referred to as a new "Jurassic World" rather than "Jurassic Park," hinting at a potential shift away from traditional themes. Speculation about the storyline includes wild possibilities like "Jurassic Space," although details remain scarce.

The Jurassic franchise, a cornerstone in Universal's film history, originated with the ground-breaking 1993 film that redefined special effects and left an indelible mark on pop culture. With a total of six movies over three decades, the franchise has amassed over $6 billion worldwide. David Koepp's return adds further anticipation, given his impressive track record with blockbuster hits.

Universal's Executive VP of Production Development, Sara Scott, and Creative Executive of Production Development, Jacqueline Garell, are set to oversee the project's development.

David Koepp, represented by CAA and Myman Greenspan, is a seasoned screenwriter with credits spanning from “Mission Impossible” to the latest “Indiana Jones” instalment.

His recent collaboration with Steven Soderbergh on the Sundance-premiered Presence and the highly sought-after project, Black Bag, generates buzz in the industry.
