Dhallywood actor Akbar Hossain Pathan (Farooque) passed away on Monday morning at Singapore Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
The actor's wife Farhana Pathan and son Rowshon Hossain Pathan (Shorot) confirmed the matter.
“He breathed his last at 10pm (local time). Father's health suddenly deteriorated in the last 3-4 days. Please pray for his departed soul. Father’s body will be brought to Dhaka on Tuesday morning,” Rowshon said.
Farooque, also a freedom fighter and Dhaka-17 Constituency MP was born on August 18, 1948.
He made his film debut by acting in “Jolchhobi" directed by H Akbar.
Farooque won the National Film Award for “Best Supporting Actor” in 1975 for his performance in the film “Lathial” and was honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.
