Renowned Bangladeshi actress Dilara Zaman has received the prestigious 'Syed Mohidul Islam Padak' on November 3 at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital.

Syed Mohidul Islam is a noted playwright, actor and director of the country. To observe his 21st death anniversary, a three-day long 'Syed Mohidul Islam Memorial Festival' is now on at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The festival will end today. The festival features award-giving ceremonies, staging of different plays and commemoration.

Syed Mohidul Islam is the founder of a drama troupe named 'Batikrom Natya Goshthi'. For paying tribute to the author, the troupe has been organising the festival on a regular basis.

On the other hand, theatre activists Dr Ali Mahmud, Iqbal Babu, Awal Reza, Pankaj Majumder, and Shishir Rahman were awarded with 'Mancha Bandhu Award'. The Jugol (Duo) awards were given to Professor Ratan Siddique and Fahmida Haque Koli, Kazi Raju and Kazi Laila Bilkis, Shahed Sharif Khan and Natasha Hayat, and Ali Ahmed Mukul and Jolly Chowdhury.

The inaugural ceremony of the event took place on November 3 at the National Theatre Hall of BSA. After the inauguration, Loko Natyadal staged its play ‘Amra Tinjon’.  

On the second day, theatrical play ‘Pakhi’ by Batikrom Natya Goshthi and ‘Phire Dekha’ by School of Acting were staged.

The festival will come to an end today by staging play ‘Spartacus Bisoyok Jotilota’ by Theatre.
