Tragically, Sohan bid his final farewell at the age of 64, just a day after the passing of his beloved wife, Priya Rahman. This double blow has plunged their family, friends, and admirers into profound sorrow.
Sohan, the visionary behind cinematic gems like "Qayamat Theke Qayamat," was born in Bogura but had strong ties to Tangail, the cherished hometown of his in-laws. On Wednesday morning, Sohan's mortal remains were brought back to Tangail.
The first janaza of Director Sohanoor Rahman Sohan was conducted at 11:25 p.m. in front of his Uttara residence on Wednesday. The second janaza took place on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. at the Tangail Old Bus Stand Jame Masjid. Sohan was laid to rest beside his beloved wife in the hallowed grounds of Tangail Central graveyard.
Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today expressed profound Shock and sorrow at the death renowned film director Sohanur Rahman Sohan.
In his condolence message, the Minister said, "The departure of Sohan is a chapter of profound sorrow in the cinema arena of the country. His passing, when the cinema world was just beginning to regain its footing, is an irreparable loss. Along with this, the passing of Sohan's wife due to a cerebral hemorrhage on Tuesday night is another tragic incident."
The news of Sohan's demise reverberated through the film industry, touching the hearts of actors like Shakib Khan, Riaz, and Ferdous, as well as directors and artists alike. Yet, the final farewell did not occur within the confines of the BFDC premises. Sohan leaves behind three daughters, two of whom reside in the country, while one continues her education in Malaysia.
Kazi Hayat, the chairman of the directors' committee, expressed condolences like everyone else at the director Sohan's death.
Kazi Hayat said, "I believe Sohan is very fortunate. He hasn't had to endure the grief of losing his wife for too long. It's very painful to accept that he's no longer with us. He was as competent as an organiser as he was as a director."
Sohan started his career as an assistant director to Shibli Sadik in the late 70s. In 1988, he made his directorial debut with the film "Biswas Abiswas." He gained immense popularity with the release of "Qayamat Theke Qayamat" in 1993. Over the course of four decades, Sohan became known for his romantic films.
In Sohan's directorial, "Ononto Bhalobasa," Shakib Khan took his first steps into the world of acting. Overwhelmed by the news of Sohan's passing, Shakib fondly recalled that pivotal moment in his career, saying, "This name Shakib Khan is given to me by Sohan Bhai. To tell the truth, I have lost the language to say or write anything about him. May Almighty keep Bhabi and Sohan Bhai in peace."
