Actress-model Dilruba Doyel is experiencing a positive response for her film ‘Chandrabati Kotha’ which was released theatrically on October 15.

Sugandha Cinema Hall in Chattogram started showing the film from October 22. Currently, Dilruba Doyel is accompanying the audience in the port city as a part of a promotional campaign for the film.

Talking to The Business Post on Wednesday, Doyel said, “I am feeling happy that the people of Chattogram have loved my film. Now, they want screening of the film in other halls of the city too. We have plans to screen the film at Chittagong University and other cultural centres in Chattogram. People of all ages have come to watch our film. I have been getting good responses so far.”

Government-sponsored ‘Chandrabati Kotha’ was released at Bashundhara City Star cineplex, Shimanto Shambhar and Blockbuster Cinemas in Dhaka and Cinescope in Narayanganj on October 15.

The film is set against the backdrop of the mid-16th century East Bengal and inspired by the life of the first female poet in Bengali literature Chandrabati, played by Dilruba Doyel.

‘Chandrabati Kotha,’ adapted from the ballads found in the Mymensingh Geetika, portrays the golden age of medieval Bengali literature.

Chandrabati, who learned everything from her father, penned her ‘Ramayana’ in Pala style (long ballads). Many of these poems have served as the foundation for a variety of Bangladeshi folklore.

“I wanted the people to know more about Chandrabati and I am overwhelmed with the response I am getting. As the film is unique from the mainstream films, I didn’t expect such a response from the mass audience,” said Doyel.

In the film, actor Imtiaz Barshon is seen playing the character of Jayananda. The biography also stars Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed and Gazi Rakayet among others.
