Actor Elle Fanning is in negotiations to lead the cast of "Badlands," a new film set within the Predator universe according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who helmed the critically acclaimed "Prey" for Hulu in 2022, "Badlands" will mark a return for Trachtenberg to the Predator franchise. "Prey" was a prequel set in 1719 and starred Amber Midthunder.
Trachtenberg co-wrote the script for "Badlands" with Patrick Aison, who also wrote "Prey." This news comes after reports in February suggesting 20th Century Studios was developing multiple Predator projects, with Trachtenberg playing a central role in building this expanded universe.
While details about the plot of "Badlands" are undisclosed, sources indicate it will be set in the future, unlike the prequel "Prey." It's also unclear if "Badlands" will follow "Prey" and be released directly to streaming services.
Fanning is known for her Emmy-nominated performance in the historical comedy series "The Great," which concluded its three-season run last year. She has also starred in Disney's "Maleficent" films and J.J. Abrams' 2011 science fiction movie "Super 8."
