Renowned actress Sharmili Ahmed passed away at a hospital in Dhaka in the early hours of Friday, at the age of 75.
Actress Wahida Mallik Joly, younger sister of Sharmili, confirmed the news of death.
Ahsan Habib Nasim, president of Actors' Equity Bangladesh (Abhinay Shilpi Sangha), said Sharmili Ahmed had been suffering from cancer.

She will be laid to rest following a namaz-e-janaza after Asr prayers in the afternoon, he added.
Popular actress Sharmili acted in numerous television dramas and appeared on the big screen in a number of movies.
