Renowned filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, who has been involved in filmmaking, television dramas, and various other creative ventures for nearly twenty-five years, is now stepping into the realm of acting in his own directed film. Throughout his career, Farooki has gifted audiences with diverse cinematic experiences, both locally and internationally.
Farooki's latest project, titled "Something like an Autobiography," has been selected to compete in the 28th Busan International Film Festival's competition category. The film is set to have its world premiere at the festival in October. This competition section, known as "KIM Jiseok Award," highlights the most significant filmmakers from Asia, including acclaimed directors like Brillante Mendoza from the Philippines, Prasanna Vithanage from Sri Lanka, and Joko Anwar from Indonesia, among others.
In "Something like an Autobiography," Mostafa Sarwar Farooki not only directs but also shares the screen with Nusrat Imrose Tisha. This collaboration extends beyond acting, as both have contributed to the film's screenplay. Tisha, who is relatively new to scriptwriting, found the experience exhilarating and fulfilling.
Farooki commented on his directorial approach for "Something like an Autobiography," stating, "I have attempted to tell various kinds of stories in the film. Each story touches people in different ways. Balancing the acting performances, storytelling, and the essence of each narrative has been my constant focus. However, the one thing I have never attempted before is acting."
Farooki shared her thoughts about the story, saying, "Although I had doubts at first about portraying a story so close to my personal life, Tisha's encouragement helped dispel them. She told me that this story is something I can tell only once in a lifetime. So, I went ahead and did it, as she urged me to."
Having built a career spanning decades, Farooki has cultivated a significant following that appreciates his work in various genres. Speaking about the audience's response, he conveyed, "Throughout these years, I have received love from different generations. I want to say to them that this film is my and Tisha's most personal story. If you like it or relate to it, it will bring me joy."
"Something like an Autobiography" marks Nusrat Imroz Tisha's return to acting after her maternity leave. She shared, "After becoming a mother, I didn't expect to return to work so quickly. Thanks to Farooki, who gave me the confidence that I can get back in shape and work again. Working on such an emotionally intense story after becoming a mother has been a blessing for me, and I am grateful to Allah for that."
Tisha expressed her thoughts on her acting experience with Farooki, saying, "Farooki has always been a great director, and he was also a good actor from the beginning. But that was behind the camera. Now, it's happening right in front of everyone. It's a bit intimidating now. What if other directors cast him and he becomes an actor? What will happen then?" she laughed.
