The 104th birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children's Day 2024 will be observed in a befitting manner today. To mark the day, noted Nazrul Sangeet singer Ferdous Ara's music institute 'Sur Saptak' has organised a special programme 'Sangeet Mala' dedicated to Bangabandhu.

Under the overall supervision and direction of Ferdous Ara, the programme 'Sangeet Mala' will be telecast live on Channel i after 4 pm today.

Ferdous Ara said, "I am paying my endless respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his birthday. Today is also our National Children's Day. On this special day, I have organised a special performance ‘Sangget Mala’ with the artistes of my music organisation Sur Saptak, where nationally awarded artists from Dhaka and outside Dhaka will participate. Teachers of Sur Saptak will also participate. Sur Saptak has been playing a special role in the creation of artistes in the music scene of Bangladesh for more than two decades. Many have already enhanced their lives by choosing music professionally. We are proud of them.”

Regarding the programme Ferdous Ara said, “Today the artistes of Sur Saptak will perform classical music, folk songs, harano diner gaan (Music of the lost days), and others. Of course, songs on Bangabandhu will also be performed. The audience will enjoy the entire show on Channel i for about an hour. Swapna Reza, the administrative officer of Sur Saptak, is helping to make the event a success.”

Meanwhile, Ferdous Ara was honored with a special honour at an award ceremony organised by 'Starplus Communication' on Women's Day on March 8.

Born in Brahmanbaria District, Ferdous Ara is the daughter of AHM Abdul Hai, a classical singer of the early 1950s, and Mosharrefa Begum. In 1973, Ara started her career as a regular vocal artist in Bangladesh Radio and afterward in Bangladesh Television. She has released numerous albums of Nazrul Sangeet, contemporary and patriotic songs.

Regarding her entrance into the music arena she said, “As far back as I can remember, my father used to organise a classical music club at our house. One day Ustad Salamat Ali and Ustad Najakat Ali from Pakistan came to our home. A classical music Jalsa was held all night. I was only ten years old then. At that age, I listened to music all night long. They noticed me. They asked me to sing and I sang. They told my father to take care of her. She will be a renowned artist when she grows up. I fell in love with music that night.”
