FIR filed against Nayanthara's 'Annapoorani'

An FIR was filed against Nayanthara and Jai's latest film 'Annapoorani' for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The movie was released in December 2023.

Nayanthara and Jai's latest film 'Annapoorani' has caught itself in trouble for allegedly hurting religious sentiments and promoting 'Love Jihad'. The film is facing backlash due to an alleged inclusion of a controversial comment concerning Lord Ram. The FIR was filed in Mumbai by a man named Ramesh Solanki, reports, India Today.

Featuring Nayanthara and Jai in the lead role, 'Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food' is currently streaming on Netflix. It was directed by debutant Nilesh Krishnaa. Ramesh Solanki shared a statement on X and also filed a police complaint asserting that the movie 'promoted Love Jihad'. He also claimed that 'Annapoorani' has offended 'Hindu sentiments'.

The complaint was filed against Nayanthara, Jai, Nilesh and producers Jatin Sethi, R Ravindran and Punit Goenka, Zee Studios Chief Business Officer Shariq Patel and the head of Netflix India, Monika Shergill.

'Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food' features Nayanthara, who portrays the role of an aspiring chef, who participates in the reality show 'India's Best Chef', despite her mother's cautionary advice. 'Annapoorani' is jointly produced by Jatin Sethi and R Ravindran, also features Jai, Sathyaraj, Redin Kingsley, Suresh Chakravarthy, Renuka and KS Ravikumar. Thaman S has composed the music, while Sathyan Sooryan is the cinematographer.

Nayanthara was trained by a professional chef for the role, and the film also marks her reunion with Jai after the 2013 film 'Raja Rani'.
