A grand concert titled “Guru of Rock: A Tribute to Azam Khan” will be held tomorrow at the Dhaka Trade Centre Auditorium in Karwan Bazar to commemorate the 13th death anniversary of legendary Bangladeshi musician Azam Khan.
The event is organised by The Attention Network. Azam Khan, known as the “pop maestro,” passed away in 2011 after battling cancer. He was a prominent figure in Bangladeshi music and a freedom fighter during the 1971 Liberation War.
Regarding the concert, his nephew stated, “It's a shame there aren't more events to celebrate someone like Azam Khan.”
“This concert is our way of honouring his memory. My family will be there, and all the money we make from tickets will go to them, not to us or the band,” he added.
The concert will feature performances by Khan's nephew, renowned musician Arman Khan, and other artists. Arman Khan, son of Azam Khan's brother Alam Khan, will perform a selection of his uncle's greatest hits, including "Ashi Ashi Bole," "Papri Keno Bojhena," and "Bangladesh," alongside some of his compositions that Azam Khan had previously performed. A portion of the concert proceeds will be donated to Azam Khan's family.
Azam Khan founded the band Uchcharan in 1972. Guitarist Rocket then joined the band. His first appearance in music was Spondon's musical program and performance on Bangladesh Television, in the DIT Building in Dhaka with rock singers like Nasir Ahmed Apu, Firoz Shai, Guitarist Mansur and many more.
His rock band earned instant reputation and Azam Khan came to be known as the "Rock Guru". Some of his biggest hits are "Ore Saleka, Ore Maleka", "Jibone Kichhu Pabona Re", "Ami Jare Chaire", "Ashi Ashi Bole Tumi", "Obhimani", "Rail liner bostite", "Hei Allah Hei Allah Re", "Alal O Dulal".
