In the latest awards season, HBO's "Succession" has taken home the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series—Drama, thanks to the exceptional performances of actors Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen.

As the industry prepares for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, the cast and crew of "Succession," including stars Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong, await the outcome. The Emmy Awards, originally scheduled for September 2023, were delayed by four months due to industry-wide disruptions caused by actors and writers strikes.

With 27 nominations, "Succession" has solidified its dominance, especially in its final season. Apple TV+'s "Ted Lasso" has also bid farewell with 21 nominations, including a nod for Jason Sudeikis in the Best Actor in a Comedy Series category, while HBO's "The Last of Us" and "The White Lotus" have also made a mark.

HBO productions topped the nominations this year, with "Succession", "The Last of Us" and "The White Lotus" leading the pack with 27, 24, and 23 nominations respectively.

"The Last of Us" gained an advantage by securing eight wins at the Creative Arts Emmys, held about a week before the main ceremony. The dystopian video game adaptation triumphed in categories like ‘Best Guest Actor’ and ‘Actress in a Drama’ for standout one-episode performances by Nick Offerman and Storm Reid. It also dominated in technical spheres, winning for ‘Best Visual Effects’ and ‘Best Prosthetic Makeup.’

"The White Lotus" won four trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys, winning in categories recognizing its music, casting, and hairstyling. "Succession," although leaving the Creative Arts Emmys without any wins, remains a strong contender for major categories. The show has claimed the Best Drama category in two of the past three Emmys and is likely still the frontrunner this year.

The acting categories are notably packed with the ensemble cast of "Succession." Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, and Kieran Culkin vie for Best Actor in a Drama, while four additional male cast members from the show are nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Furthermore, Sarah Snook secured a nomination for Best Actress. "The White Lotus" secured five nominees in the supporting actress category, including performances by Jennifer Coolidge and Aubrey Plaza. Meanwhile, "The Last of Us" lead actors, Pascal and Bella Ramsey, are both nominated in their respective lead acting categories.

On the comedy front, "The Bear," recognized in comedy categories despite its dramatic elements, earned four Emmys at the Creative Arts ceremonies and is nominated for 13 overall. "Ted Lasso" has been an Emmy darling since its debut, securing ‘Best Comedy Series’ and ‘Best Actor’ for Jason Sudeikis in each of its first two seasons. It is now nominated for a potential three-peat in both categories.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards will be hosted by Anthony Anderson on January 15, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET on Fox, with streaming available on Hulu the following day.
