Ekushey Padak and National Film Award-winning actor, playwright and director Abu Hayat is celebrating his 80th birthday today.

However, considering the on-going student protests against inequality and the flood-affected people in the country, he has decided to forego any grand celebration.

Abu Hayat mentioned that he would celebrate the day privately with his wife at his residence in Bailey Road. However, at the special request of his fellow artists, he will attend an informal celebration organised by the Abhinay Shilpi Sangha in the afternoon. He has agreed to participate in this informal event mainly because of this.

Meanwhile, Abu Hayat's autobiography, "Robi Path," is set to be published at the very end of this month. He shared that he has been writing this autobiography for the past ten years.

Regarding his birthday, acting, directing, and autobiography, Abu Hayat said, "To be honest, considering the students who were martyred in the recent protests against inequality and the subsequent flood situation across the country, I have cancelled the plans I had for my 80th birthday. It can be done later, but not now.”

“And the book, I was able to finally finish it after ten long years due to the immense interest and pressure from my wife, my two children Bipasha and Natasha. I still have a desire to direct plays if I find a good story or can write a timely one. And I am still acting. I have received many awards in my life. But the love of the people and the respect I have received from them, nothing can compare to that. I want to live amid their love. I want to continue acting until the last day of my life. Please pray for me and my family."

Abu Hayat last directed a drama called "Kodom" during the last Eid-ul-Adha. He is currently acting in the drama serial "Jonakir Alo," directed by Musafir Rony.
