The government-funded film ‘Nakshi Kanthar Jamin’ (A Tale of Two Sisters) has won the Best Feature Film Award at the 14th Busan Peace Film Festival (BPFF) in South Korea.
Produced by TM Films and directed by Akram Khan, the film depicts the history of the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
Eight films, including ‘Nakshi Kanthar Jamin’, were selected from around 700 films and nominated in the best feature film competition category. The festival, which runs from October 26 to October 29, screened 'Nakshikantha Zamin' on October 28 and received the Best Feature Film award at the closing ceremony of the festival on October 29.
Director Akram Khan said, “I am very inspired that, this liberation war based film get the award in this significant festival. Getting international recognition of this film, which was made in the context of the liberation war, is our recognition of the unknown history of our great Independence War.”
The movie, based on the story ‘Bidhobar Katha’ by Hassan Azizul Haque, depicts the 1971 Liberation War. The film stars Jaya Ahsan, Fariha Shams Sheuti, Iresh Zaker, Rawnak Hasan, Soumya Jyoti, and Dibya Jyoti, among others.
The film was recently awarded as the best film at the Bengaluru International Film Festival in India. There, the film shared third place in the Asian competition section with ‘Viratapura Viraagi’. 14 other films competed in this section.
