The legendary Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is finally getting his biopic. This will be the first time his extraordinary life story, filled with dramatic turns and triumphs, will be showcased on the big screen.
According to Anandabazar, Tollywood actor Kinjal Nanda will portray Nazrul Islam in the film directed by Abdul Alim. The movie promises to be a captivating journey, following Nazrul from his humble beginnings to his rise as a national icon.
Kinjal said, “This is the first biopic on Nazrul's life. The entire life of Nazrul will be portrayed in the film. I am truly excited to have this opportunity. I will first study the screenplay. The character is very challenging. It feels amazing to be a part of a film centred around someone whose name commands such respect. We know only a little about Nazrul but there is much more to explore in this film.”
Kinjal mentioned that Nazrul's entire life from childhood to death will be portrayed in the film. The actor said, “The shooting for the film will start in winter. There will be a lot of prosthetic makeup. Many historical characters will come alive in this film.”
There is a difference in appearance between Kinjal and Nazrul, hence the need for prosthetics. Somnath Kundu is responsible for Kinjal's appearance in the film.
Kinjal is currently studying Nazrul to portray the character accurately on screen. He said, ‘‘Discussions have been held with the director. I am reading some books. Since we all know less about Nazrul, bringing this character to life is quite challenging.’’
Apart from Kinjal, other actors like Kharaj Mukhopadhyay (Fazlul Haque), Kanchana Maitra (Birja Sundari Devi), and many others will also be acting in significant roles in Nazrul's biopic.
Some actors from Bangladesh like Fazlur Rahman Babu (Ali Akbar Khan) and Orchita Sporshia (Nargis) also are part of this film.
According to a Tollywood source, Ranjit Mallik or Chiranjeet Chakraborty might be considered for the role of Tagore. However, the final decision is yet to be made.
Joy Sarkar is in charge of the music direction for the film. Nazrul's biopic is a tough test. So, in the next few months, preparations for casting and other aspects of the film will continue. The shooting for the film is expected to start in the winter of the current year.
The name of the film has been kept as 'Kazi Nazrul Islam'. It is produced by JB Productions.
