Lindsay Lohan, known for her role in the original 2004 film "Mean Girls," made a surprise appearance at the premiere of the new musical adaptation in New York on Monday.

The actress, reuniting with Tina Fey, who wrote the original film and the subsequent Broadway show, joined the pink carpet festivities alongside the new Cady Heron, Angourie Rice.

Expressing her anticipation for the new iteration, Lohan shared with The Associated Press, "It was an amazing movie to work on when I did it, and I can't wait to see this new iterative version of it. I think it's gonna be wonderful." She acknowledged the impact the original film had on teens and was excited about the new adaptation addressing contemporary themes.

Rice, who plays Cady in the latest version, expressed admiration for Lohan's performance in the 2004 film, stating, "I just hoped that my performance would be adding to the legacy that she started."

The musical movie, much like the original, follows Cady's high school journey in the suburbs, navigating the complexities of teenage hierarchies. Regina George, the leader of the Plastics, is portrayed by Reneé Rapp. Tina Fey, describing it as a "new twist," emphasized that the core story remains relevant, exploring issues that still resonate after two decades.

Fey remarked on the enduring nature of high school dynamics, saying, "In a way, things haven't changed that much, right? People have new ways to mess with each other, right?" Lohan agreed, noting that the film serves as a timely "wake-up call."

The star-studded premiere included appearances by Jon Hamm, Auli'i Cravalho, Busy Philipps, and others from the new cast. Lohan mentioned her upcoming projects, including filming a Netflix movie and the release of "Irish Rose" on the streaming service in March.

Reflecting on parenthood and the themes portrayed in "Mean Girls," Lohan humorously mentioned her young child, saying, "Oh my god, he's not a teenager yet. Don't rush me. I want to savour every moment. But it's a blessing. It's the biggest blessing in the world."
