Mahakal Natyasampradaya will stage its much-acclaimed play ‘Shikhandi Katha’, written by Aanan Zaman and directed by Rashid Harun on Saturday at 7:00 pm at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of the Bangladesh Mahila Samity, Baily road in the capital. The play will be staged as a part of the 12-day ‘Ganga-Jamuna Cultural Festival’.

Aanan’s ethnographical work Shikhandi Katha focuses on the miserable plight of hermaphrodites as well as the ill-treatment that they receive from the society.

He has presented a fragmented picture of the hermaphrodites’ den, their culture and lifestyle.

In the soliloquy of a hermaphrodite, at the closing scene, the playwright is so emotional that his character delivers harsh words to the omnipotent God for their creation.

The cast of the play included Aanan Zaman, Mir Zahid Hassan, Rajonyo Taslim, Syed Lutfar Rahman, Alamgir Hasan, Poly Biswas, Russell Ahmed and Bithun Ahmed among others.

Tanvir Hasan and Shafiqul Islam jointly designed the set of the production, which symbolically represented the miserable fate of these unfortunate people and Rafiqul Haque Himel designed the stage lights.

Moreover, as part of the festival, three other plays titled ‘Uronto Tarader Chhaya’ by the theatre troupe Samstab (Kolkata), ‘Nankar Pala’ by Aranyak Natyadal, ‘Bhagirathir Bhagyaroth’ by the troupe Sangsaptak (Bogura) will be staged at the National Theatre Hall, Experimental Theatre Hall and Studio Theatre Hall of BSA respectively this evening. Cultural enthusiasts can catch the live performances from 4pm to 6:30pm daily, and the stage dramas will commence at 7pm.
